Where Passion and Promise Meet

SSPI is a professional development society, working to ensure the retention and the development of talented industry professionals throughout their career. Retention and development are two activities that have obvious benefits to the industry. Talented professionals – engineers, marketing and communications professionals, leading executives and effective sales people – are needed in any industry, but many of those skills are transferrable to other industries. So, the question is asked: when does a person go from being any one of those things – an engineer, a marketing guru, a CEO – to being a Space and Satellite Professional?

When it comes to development, there are obvious ways we carry that out, including webinars, podcasts and local Chapter events where learning and networking happen. Retention is trickier. Companies have a vested interest in creating comfortable and engaging work environments to ensure that the investment made in onboarding new hires results in years of productivity. But keeping people in the industry requires not just a great work environment, but involvement with the industry. And that’s where SSPI shines. There are some surprising sources of professional development that come from active engagement – the kinds of development that you get when the industry becomes your passion – and a willingness to step forward and participate provides benefits that might not be obvious at first.
